1960 U.S. Washington Quarter 90% Silver Coin Mint State Condition
A 1960 US Washington quarter
$14.95
Description
A 1960 U.S. Washington silver quarter from either the Denver mint (“D” mintmark) or Philadelphia mint (no mintmark). Each coin is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition with no wear and strong luster.
The Washington quarter design was first minted in 1932 replacing the Standing Liberty quarter design that had been in place since 1916. The design was chosen to honor George Washington and commemorate the bicentennial of his birth. From 1932 through 1964 the quarter (along with the dime and half dollar) was produced of a 90% silver 10% copper alloy. Due to the rising price of silver the U.S. Mint switched the quarter to a copper nickel alloy from 1965 onward. 1960 was one of the final years that the quarter was produced in silver.
